Canyonleigh is one of the more luxurious farm stays in NSW. You’ll find it set in 500 acres of pristine countryside, halfway between Canberra and Sydney.
It has won itself much praise in the last few years, getting consistently great online reviews for its accommodation, and it is also noted for its dedication to sustainability.
The accommodation comes in the form of self-contained apartments with kitchens or suites. The latter don’t have kitchen facilities, but the farm-fresh organic food at Canyonleigh is so good that those in the former tend to end up ordering meals too, especially breakfast.
They are all spacious, comfortable, and well thought out. With full kitchens or not, they will have furnished outdoor space and comfortable lounge areas, with fireplaces in some.
You’re left to your own devices at Canyonleigh as much as you want to be. The overall vibe is relaxed but very welcoming, and the staff know how to make guests feel at home.
You can just wander the farm and the trails of the wildlife-filled 500-acre estate, much of it native forest. By yourself, if you like, or you can organize guided walks or farm tours where you can learn about sustainability, recycling, and modern organic farming techniques.
Bikes are available to hire, horse riding can be organized, as can in-room massages. And you can order gourmet lunches and picnics for your time out on the range, plus bottles of local wine or champagne.
The retreat can be a good gateway for exploring the Southern Highlands. Nearby, you can explore Canyonleigh National Park, Fitzroy Falls, and Wombeyan Caves.
The historic towns of Berrima and Bowral are just a short drive away. The region is known for wineries too, including Artemis Wines, Bendooley Estate, and Eling Forest Winery, all within reach of Canyonleigh Retreat.
