Just over 3 hours east of Calgary, Bar Diamond Guest Ranch B&B stretches out over 34,000 acres along the banks of the Red Deer River in Bindloss, Alberta, Canada, and offers a host of activities for lovers of the great outdoors; horseback riding of course, but also speed-boating, hiking, ATVing, fishing, canoeing, wildlife/bird-watching and more.
The have nice, comfortable B&B rooms at the ranch where you can also treat yourself to some quality home cooking. You can order hearty evening meals here as well as a fine breakfast every morning and spend the rest of your time exploring the range, enjoying a game of pool or a cold beer in their converted barn or just hanging out enjoying the peace and quiet of this wonderfully isolated setting.
As mentioned they offer a range of activities, apart from riding the old wagon trails on horseback you can cruise the Red Deer river on a speedboat, do ATV tours, kick back with a fishing rod by the river, go picnicking, canoeing, cattle branding, wildlife tracking or bird watching. There is a wide variety of animals to be seen around the ranch; hawks, herons, vultures, both bald and golden eagles, elk, moose, coyotes, beaver and plenty more.
Around the ranch you can also see a circa 5000 years old Blackfoot medicine wheel and some of the many iconic hoodoo rock formations that are synonymous with the area.
The very much isolated setting makes a stay at this ranch extra special. City folk will particularly appreciate the incredible view of the stars at night or the utter silence of this lovely countryside broken only maybe by the eerie call of a coyote.
These are the Alberta Badlands, prehistoric landscapes that stretch across into neighboring Saskatchewan and contain a large number of unusual rock formations and ancient fossils, particularly around Dinosaur Provincial Park, about an hour and a half from the ranch, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and known by some as the dinosaur capital of the world, such has been the amount of discoveries there.
The ranch is just over three hours east Alberta’s capital Calgary and about ninety minutes north of Medicine Hat.
