- This stylish farm stay, outside the town of Serendah, Malaysia, is less than an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur and is a popular rural retreat from the city. THE ACCOMMODATION: It has a range of very comfortable suites and chalets for up to four people, all of them clean and comfortable with private bathroom. There is a common kitchen in the main building too where you can cook using some of the farm’s own produce, as well as a dining room, library, games and reading room. Outside there is plenty of social space too; around the swimming pool and the barbecue pit where barbecues can be a nightly event. If you don’t feel like cooking there are a number of quality restaurants in the surrounding area serving Malay, Indian, Chinese and Western food, with one or two within walking distance. Ask the staff for advice. Carpe Diem has 18 acres of fruit orchards, vegetable plots, herb gardens, flower gardens, duck ponds and a swimming pool. THE LOCATION: Plenty of outdoor activities can also be arranged with help from the staff; cycling and trekking tours for example or fishing and fruit picking. There is lots to see and do in this part of Malaysia; the Ulu Yam Hot Springs, Orang Asli-Native Village and a country club with a public golf course are all within 15 minutes drive. Slightly farther afield, about a half an hour away, you’ll find some awesome jungle treks around Selangor Dam and Kuala Kubu Bahru. The nearest airport is Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport less than 50 miles away. Note: No WiFi, and no pets allowed! WHAT OTHER GUESTS SAY: “Excellent: The owner was such a humble and nice person. - Near Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, on the south west coast of Malaysia, Lake View Farm has self catering chalet accommodation surrounded by five acres of land and its own private lake. It is a cute friendly place with a family atmosphere and can be a nice gentle introduction to rural farming life. The Accommodation: The air conditioned chalet has 4 spacious bedrooms, each with one queen size bed and two singles, so there is space for up to 16 people to sleep. There is also a lounge/living room and dining area, a fully-equipped kitchen and four bathrooms. The lounge is spacious with plenty of seating and doors that open out on the lake where you’ll find plenty of space to relax, as well as barbecue facilities and outdoor seating. The Farm: The small farm has a number of friendly goats, hens and ducks, and grows various fruits and vegetables. Guests can enjoy plenty of interaction with the animals and are free to wander around the farm as much as they like. The farm owners have canoes and rowing boats for trips out on the lake as well as fishing equipment, which all guests are free to use. You’ll find the whole environment enjoyable in a very relaxing and pleasant way. The Location: The lovely, and very popular, beaches of Port Dickson are just 5 km from the farmstay, and there are plenty of great beaches all along the nearby coast from Tanjung Gemuk to Tanjung Tuan and beyond. The town of Port Dickson itself isn’t terribly beautiful or interesting but it does have plenty of shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, and gets busy with tourists making their way down to the beaches. There also some historical sights around too including the Temple of Wan Loong and the hilltop Kota Lukut fortress, and the very lovely, and very historical (UNESCO World Heritage) city of Melaka, or Malacca, is about 100km south down the coast. The newly built ‘garden city’ of Putrajaya is about 43 km away from the farm stay and can make for an interesting, non touristy, diversion, while Malaysia’s huge capital Kuala Lumpur is about 60km to the north.
