Château de Labro is a luxury B&B vineyard hotel & spa near the town, and international airport, of Rodez in what is now known as the Occitanie region of France, formerly Midi-Pyrénées. The property is a 16th century château that oozes elegance and old world class both inside and out. The food, and the wine, is fantastic and outside there are some beautiful gardens, vineyards and a swimming pool. One little novelty of the place is that they also Read more [...]
This newly, and beautifully, renovated vineyard villa is on one of St. Emilion’s, and the Bordeaux Right Bank’s, most famous wine estates. The place feels more like a luxury home rental than a hotel, with lots of common space to socialize with other guests, plus outside you can relax around the lovely gardens where you’ll find a swimming pool and a hot tub. Beyond, there are vineyards as far as the eye can see and, with a winery on the property, there are some of the France‘s, and the world’s, very best wines to be enjoyed right there at the source.
The villa has a good selection of B&B rooms, doubles and triples, all of which are modern, clean, comfortable and suitably plush. The bathrooms are particularly nice and some of the rooms come with a balcony or terrace which have lovely views over the vineyards.
The is a lot of common space in the villa and it makes it easy to socialize with other guests. There is a lounge area with TV, a large dining room, and an equally large common kitchen where you are welcome to cook for yourself. The room rate includes breakfast and it won’t disappoint, being invariably delicious, wholesome and fresh.
The outside space is a particular highlight with a terrace, nice neat gardens, a swimming pool and a hot tub. Beyond the gardens are the vineyards which you can wander around yourself or you can also arrange guided tours which also include a tour of the winery and of course tasting sessions.
THE VINEYARDS & THE WINE:
Valandraud is a productive and very highly respected estate these days, but with relatively recent, and humble origins. When starting out in 1989, on a small patch of land, their debut vintage produced just 100 cases. They didn’t even have a wine cellar of their own back in those days, with the wine being made in a friends garage.
Things are different now though and they have a 10 hectare estate, 8 of which are given to reds, planted to 70 % Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The remaining two hectares are white Bordeaux grapes; 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Gris.T
Their red wines are; Valandraud, 3 de Valandraud and Virginie de Valandraud, and their whites are, the very particularly highly rated, Blanc de Valandraud N° 1 and N° 2.
Near to Bordeaux and only around 5 minutes from the gorgeous town of St. Emilion, the location is pretty special. This is the heart of Bordeaux’s Right Bank wine region, and the area is a real pleasure to discover, with a full range of wine tourism at every turn. The Dordogne Valley just to the east is a lovely place for a leisurely drive around too, with lots of rolling green hills and quaint little villages.
