In a beautifully secluded spot along the coastal ring road about two hours south of Reykjavík, Iceland, and with easy access to the Westmann Islands ferry, Ásólfsskáli farmstay has a two bedroom cottage on its working dairy farm with views over the volcanic mountain of Eyjafjöll.
The cottage, close to the main farmhouse, is cosy and comfortable and can fit up to seven people; there’s one double bedroom, one twin with bunk beds, and in the living room there are two convertible futon type sofa beds. There is a TV too, plus a terrace and plenty of space outside with a barbecue, outdoor seating and also a hot tub.
The farm is a large working dairy farm which guests are welcome to explore, and horse riding trips around the area can be arranged from a neighbouring farm.
The area around is spectacular and superbly peaceful and has some great hiking trails, and you can also arrange horse riding trips with horses from a neighbouring farm. Among the well known sights around is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall about 13 km away.
Isolated as this farmstay is, having your own transport would be best. You’ll not find many nearby places to stock up on groceries for example, the nearest place for that being Hvolsvöllur about 30km away.
