Ásólfsskáli Farm Cottage is in a beautifully secluded spot along the coastal ring road about two hours south of Reykjavík, Iceland, with easy access to the Westmann Islands ferry.
The accommodation is in the form of a two-bedroom cottage on a working dairy farm, with views over the volcanic mountain of Eyjafjöll.
The Accommodation:
The cottage, close to the main farmhouse, is cosy and comfortable and can fit up to seven people. There’s one double bedroom, one twin with bunk beds, and in the living room there are two convertible futon-type sofa beds.
There is a TV too, plus a terrace and plenty of space outside with a barbecue, outdoor seating, and also a hot tub.
The Farm:
The farm is a large working dairy farm that guests are welcome to explore; horse riding trips around the area can be arranged from a neighbouring farm.
The Location:
The area around is spectacular and superbly peaceful and has some great hiking trails. Among the well-known nearby sights is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, about 13 kilometres away.
Isolated as this farmstay is, having your own transport would be best. You’ll not find many nearby places to stock up on groceries, for example. The nearest place for that is Hvolsvöllur, about 30 kilometres away.
Guest Reviews:
“Truly wonderful place, unbelievably beautiful setting. You have your own canyon right in your back yard. Great cows….”
“Beautiful location and fantastic staff. I’d go back in a heartbeat….”
