Near Florence in the famous town of Vinci, Dianella is an idyllic, Tuscan farmhouse B&B, where the farmhouse in question is a 16th-century Medicean Villa.
It is surrounded by acres of vineyards and olive groves from which the owners produce their own award-winning wines and olive oils.
Tasting sessions for both are available, and encouraged!
As are their excellent cooking classes which start out in the vegetable gardens, and end with wine pairing for your freshly made dishes.
THE ACCOMMODATION:
They have two double rooms and two larger double luxury suites at the farmhouse (take a look on the booking page here), all of which are very comfortable and elegantly decorated in classic Tuscan style.
Each comes with a private bathroom, WiFi, and a satellite TV, while the larger suites also have a separate lounge area.
Outside there is plenty of space to relax in the gardens and guests are free to wander the estate and the ancient wine cellars.
There are daily wine and olive oil tasting sessions, and the aforementioned cooking classes, at the villa.
Their wine-making tradition dates back to 1700 and their wines have won numerous awards, the most well known being their Chianti Dianella which is served in top restaurants and taverns all over Italy.
The food at their informal restaurant is fabulous, too. A generous and healthy buffet breakfast will await you each morning, served in your room, in the dining hall, or outside in the gardens.

THE FARM & VINEYARD:
For those of you in the know, the estate is located in the western Montalbano Chianti DOCG area of Tuscany and has about 25 hectares of vineyard stretched over gentle hills with a south to southwest exposure.
They grow a variety of grapes here; Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, Sangiovese, Colorino, and quite a few more.
There are also about 15 hectares of olive groves, growing varieties such as Leccino, Pendolino, Frantoio, and Moraiolo which go into the making of their branded Dianella extra virgin olive oil.
They are passionate about both and have even a small wine museum in the ancient cellars of the villa.
Tours are offered too of course, of the farm and the cellars.
The rest of the farm contains a large area of untouched woodland where a lot of valuable truffles are to be found.
It’s a lovely place to wander around and you can also organize truffle hunting tours with specially trained dogs.
THE LOCATION:
The farm stay is just outside the small, beautiful village of Vinci, the ancient home of Leonardo. The farmhouse where he was born is actually about 3km outside the village in the hamlet of Anchiano.
In the village itself there is much to see though, including the Museo Leonardiano, and the font where he was baptized at the church of Santa Croce.
It gets hoards of tourists, especially in summer, but is a must-visit.
There are a host of surrounding towns worth a visit, too. Empoli is just south, and down the road from the farm stay are Castelfiorentino, Montelupo and the town of the three hills: San Miniato.
There are also many nature and hiking trails that snake their way all around this wonderful countryside.
WHAT OTHER GUESTS SAY:
“The building and grounds were beautiful and it was fabulous being able to explore the surrounding olive groves and grape vine fields….”
“This is an absolutely fabulous place with a magical atmosphere and magnificent wine! We stayed in a suite just for one night, had interesting wine testing, walked around the villa – views are fantastic, real Tuscany. Friendly staff prepared super tasty dinner for us on request and it was served for us in the wine cellar, where were only two of us, it was super romantic! We had a great time, enjoyed every second of being there and will definitely come back!…”
