La Bobadilla Luxury Agroturismo, near to both Granada and the Costa del Sol, Spain, looks, from a distance, like a classic, white-washed village tucked away in the hills of Andalusia.
Up close all is revealed: a Moorish-style palace and a series of old manor farmhouse buildings converted into what is now undoubtedly one of the best luxury hotels in rural Andalusia.
The property is gorgeous, the setting equally so, and there is a great range of activities to be enjoyed on its 1000-acre estate.
There is an excellent spa, a swimming pool, a gym, a children’s playground, tennis courts, hot tubs, two bars, and three restaurants, one of which is consistently rated as one of Granada’s best.
THE ACCOMMODATION:
As you’ll see on the booking page, there is a huge range of rooms and suites to choose from, all of which are top-of-the-range luxury.
You can expect spacious, individually styled units with wood-beamed ceilings, seating areas with plasma TVs, and very lavish, marble bathrooms, some of which have spa baths/hot tubs.
Outside they also all have some private space, in the form of a garden, terrace, or balcony area.
The grounds are beautiful, as mentioned, and the entire property has the look and feel of a traditional Andalusian village. It
is a lovely place to wander around, both the ‘Village’ itself, and the 1000 estate on which it stands, with lush gardens, olive groves, oak woodlands, and lovely views of the surrounding countryside.
You can hire bikes, and quad bikes, from the hotel and arrange horse riding, guided tours, etc.
If you have the kids in tow and you would like some freedom you can also leave them at the Mini Club, where they will be looked after with games and activities supervised by the staff.
Among the three restaurants La Finca is the most famous and offers fine dining in an elegant atmosphere (Dress code alert: no shorts, tee shirts, or trainers). It has won several accolades over the years for its seasonal Spanish/Andalusian, mainly organic fare, and is Granada Province’s only five-star restaurant.
There are two other restaurants at the hotel too, both of them more casual, informal experiences but with still very high standards in terms of food and service.
Many of the ingredients are grown on the estate grounds and the rest are as local and seasonal as possible. You can arrange cooking classes with the chefs and also guided tours of the chef’s garden farm.
They have an extensive wine cellar at Agroturismo Bobadilla, too, with both Spanish and international wines on offer.
The top-of-the-range spa offers a lengthy list of treatments: massage therapy, reflexology, hydrotherapy, pedicure, waxing, beauty treatments, and many more. There is an on-site fitness centre and gym, too.
The property is eco-friendly, with a series of systems in place to reduce their environmental impact. For example, they burn of olive stones for heating and hot water, using the ash as a natural fertilizer.
THE LOCATION:
Agroturismo La Bobadilla is conveniently near both Granada and Malaga, in the province of Almeria, Andalusia.
The area is lovely, very much rural Andalusia with sleepy little villages, and rolling hills surrounded by various mountain ranges: the Sierras de Tejeda to the south, las Sierras Subbéticas to the north, and, to the east, by the lovely hilltop town of the same name, the Sierra de Loja.
The agroturismo is also just 14km from the village of Archidona with its famously historic Santuario de la Virgen de Gracia church.
You can arrange all sorts of tours and excursions from the hotel, including bespoke tours, treks and horse riding tours of the surrounding countryside, and cultural and food tours.
Day trips to the historic cities of Granada, Cordoba, and Seville can also be arranged, as well as to Malaga and the beaches of the Costa del Sol.
They also offer airport transfers to all the nearby airports. Even if you don’t have your own transport La Bobadilla can still be a very good base for exploring both the urban and the rural of one of Europe’s most loved regions, Andalusia.
