United StatesTurtleback Farm Inn is a beautifully peaceful rural retreat, located as it is on Orcas Island, one of the San Juan Islands, in Washington State. These islands are famous for their native wildlife and you’ll find great opportunities to see eagles, hawks, whales and seals. The farmhouse itself is over a hundred years old and sits on 80 acres of farmland with six ponds, a flock of sheep as well as domestic geese and hens, and all surrounded by the lush, green woodland typical of Orcas Island. All seven of its bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, with private bath and very nicely decorated with antique furniture. They’ve got a library at the farm too and a cosy shared lounge. It’s a popular spot though; it was chosen by National Geographic Magazine for example as one of the ‘most authentic and unique hotels in the western U.S.’ While Sunset magazine once described it as ”One of the country’s most romantic inns.” So with such high praise, it’s wise to book ahead!
